Sending Off

It was noted in a previous entry that the Lê Trai were steadfast in praying for Marie Rose in the most rigorous Buddhist tradition. That practice culminated into today's final ceremony at their lovely home in Weston. To complement the abbreviated ceremony performed on December 23rd, today's lasted a precisely timed 45 minutes. Mrs. Lê Trai opened with remarks to educate the attending audience the meaning and purpose of the 49th day final ceremony, which is essentially a "sending off" of the departed. Mr. Lê Trai followed by a repeat recital of the poem offered by his spouse.

Although the entire ceremony was recorded, only still frames are included here for conciseness. The praying was conducted by Mr. Lê Trai. On the left, Mrs. Lê Trai kept the traditional rhythmic beats with the use of a hollow shell seen resting on the red cushion on the left of the photo above . Mr. Giáo, on the right, inserted at precisely timed intervals pagoda quality bell chimes with the black bronze chime.

The ceremony concluded with a burning of the text of the prayers.

A sumptuous all vegetable meal was offered to all attendees immediately following the conclusion of the service.
